Reality Of An Addict - Poem by Kevin McMahon

Lying there dreaming
So real
You right beside me wheezing
Drawing your last breathe
I can help you
I'm right here
'THE HERO'...I'm not.
I can't move
I too am suffocating
No visible ties that bind
Yet, I still can't move
I see you there dying
Why can't i move?
I know I can help
I know I can! !
But previous choices render me helpless
All I can do is cry
Father, no don't die
I'm here, but of no use.
I awaken...
Eyes red
Nose stuffed
Yet, still helpless
