Rule Number One Poem by Kim Barney

Rule Number One

Rating: 5.0

The Rule Number One for poets
is to write about things that you know,
so should I write about aches and pains
and aging, and being slow?

You won't see me write about love;
I don't know a thing about that.
I have no pets, so I won't write
about my great dog or my cat.

Perhaps I could write about chess;
I've played quite a few games of late.
But readers don't care, so I won't share
how I stumbled and fell into ‘mate'.

The truth is, I know next to nothing
that's worthy to share here with you.
I could try to write ‘til deep in the night,
but it seems like my poetry's through.

I like your sytle of poetry yet there is something called imagination and poets are good in foreseeing things which they are not good about.

Asim, thank you for commenting. I agree that poets are good at imagining things that they really don't know much about. An astute observation by you.

This poem proves that your poetry is not 'through'. You still have many good poems left in you!
