Satyawati -31 Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Satyawati -31

Rating: 5.0

31. A War in the Family

After Pandu had died of consumption
Dhritarashtra took over as king
The denial of the throne to him
Now became a questionable issue.

No wonder the Dhartarashtrans
Tried to eliminate the Pandavas;
Between them grew distrust
Suspicion hatred and animosity.

All the wise words of Bhisma
And Vidura could do little
To quell the increasing conflict
Fear of impending war gripped us.

Hi Rini, Here we have to understand that, by tradition, the eldest son inherits the throne. Dhritarashtra was denied the throne only because he was blind. Is this decision justified? If so, why and how was he anointed as king, when Pandu died? Questions More Questions! ! !

After the death of Pandu Dhritarashtra took over the throne and there after conflict increased between Dhartarashtrans and Pandavas. This has been nicely and touchingly inscribed by you in this poem. Interesting to read. Thanks for sharing.

I have always enjoyed reading history, literature and Mythology. Only Unnikrishnan uncle could bring all the three together and make it even more interesting!

Thank you, Chandni for your appreciation of this series. I do hope that you have gone through other series of mine, namely Yayati, sarpasatram and Sunahsepha, based on Indian mythology. The poem, “The Swan And Me” is based on a story in the Greek myth. If not, please find time to read them and let me know, how you find them. Thank you.

I swear people like to have conflicts- it's like we can not thrive on peace only friction. If we make a rule, we cannot wait to break it. Can't we do anything but be the Sons of Perdition? I must force myself to turn the page- I fear it will be war for these people. 10++++++++++++++++

So Susie, Conflicts, wars and death! Diseases, maladies, floods, fire! Death and more death! Is it one of the ways of Mother Nature to Control population?

Sir, Here, Sage Vyasa has kept silence on many issues. The questions reverberate in the readers' minds. If a blind prince can not be king, then how was Dhritarashtra allowed to succeed Pandu to the throne? If he could be the king now, why was he denied it earlier?
