She plays house
but this time without a family
she goes through the motions every day
holding on to hope
that it will be different one day
but time is running a marathon
and as she tries to hold it still
it's slips through her fingers
like water flowing through
she wonders how long she can hold on
feeling paralyzed and numb
she goes through the motions
of what she does best
playing house in her empty nest

'she goes through the motions of what she does best playing house in her empty nest' - these lines are heart touching. Playing house in one's empty nest is a deep expression of void and sorrow!
The empty nest is a cliche many can relate to. Thank you for your comment, my friend! Stay safe.
