Should I Die Tomorrow Poem by David Wood

Should I Die Tomorrow

Rating: 5.0

Should I die tomorrow
Lay me with my wife
Shed not a tear of sorrow
For I have tried my best in life

My love she went before me
A long long time ago
And she will be the first I see
For that I surely know

I never did love another
She was the only one for me
The earth will be our cover
Our home for all eternity

I bequeathed all my belongings
To the charities of the poor
For I have no further longings
As I go through Deaths dark door

A new name will go on the headstone
So carve our names with pride
Now she’ll never sleep alone
Together we’ll lie side by side

As I leave this Earth behind
Shed not a tear for me
For new pastures we will find
A whole new destiny

I never did love another She was the only one for me Your love is pure and you cherish her love. You never miss her, she is always in your heart. Great words well said.

This is lovely.... at the same time heart pinching! I admire the lover and husband in you! Such devotion.... such genuineness of feeling....something so hard to find these days! Of course, you will be reunited with your beloved in death.... but as long as you are here, you try to make yourself happy and never destroy your life pining for what is lost! This is the same thing I keep telling Amitava Sur!

stanza 4 seems to speak of the past as if you were already 'gone'. I wonder if the poem is a true account of YOUR life when you wrote the poem. Or maybe it is not even about YOU! Good one. : ) bri

Then metaphorically speaking. Not now though.
