Watch these butterflies on colorful wings
Merrily they flit from flower to flower
These delicate dancing dervishes,
Live joyously in Nature's balmy bower
Staying in captivity for days on end
Free at last from the binding cyst
Leaving behind their shackles and chains
Into boundless freedom, soar on wings swift
As light and fleet as the passing breeze
They fly all through the summer's day
Feasting on nectar is all what they do
Flowers en mass welcome these companions gay
These tiny miracles of grace capture our eyes
As they reel on wings colorful as rainbow hues
Alas, so fragile in form and structure
With the slightest touch, one can their frame bruise
While these jolly fellows float up and down
Children in ambush wait to trap these flies
Remember, in moments of gay abandon, danger lurks
Better fly fast, fly far, you lovely butterflies!
Hi Valsa when I wrote my paragraph on the Simple Verse.19. I began to doze over my computer. But I woke up twice and went back to typing and left a big gap each time I tried to reconnect with my argument - not possible, all I accomplished was incoherence. So I got up, walked around my apartment, went out on the balcony, got a blast of cold air, fixed an espresso and I'M BACK! ... The butterflies are are living a perfectly balanced life and not interfering with any other life form. The nectar they take from flowers doesn't hurt the flower and they don't have to kill other life to guarantee their life goes on. Oh, what bliss not to carry that guilt! Rilke called our reliance on killing for survival OUR WANDERING SORROW. Boy, you're gonna carry that weight a long, long time (Beatles, Abbey Road) .
You call the butterflies TINY MIRACLES OF GRACE, and that is precisely the role they play in the poem. It is a grace that comes from being alone but alert, and humans are especially hurt by slow degrees of loss. But the closely observing butterfly knows instinctually life is savoring nectar - and there's an abundance of it, and what he takes does not endanger the flower. It's a perfectly balanced ecology of bee and flower.
Very nice poem and very beautifully composed that says many a thing of life.......Valsa.......great write as always 10/10
