St Kabeer's Couplets On Experience: 49 Rules To Mules, Laws To Buffaloes Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

St Kabeer's Couplets On Experience: 49 Rules To Mules, Laws To Buffaloes

Rating: 5.0

An ill-informed fool, what to state?
Kabeer feels shy of such a fate.
Like dancing ‘tis before a blind—
Futile an art, vain one may find.

Given below is the original couplet in Hindi along with its translireation in English Roman.

निरजानी सो कहिये का, कहत कबीर लजाय
अंधे आगे नाचते, कला अकारथ जाये।

Nirjānī so kahiye kā, kahata kabeer lajāye,
Andhe āge nāchate, kalā akāratha jāye.

What can one say to an ignorant fool? Kabeer hesitates, feels somewhat hesitant to spell it out. Dancing in front of the blinds, displaying fine arts, one's art would sure go in vain. So it is talking about higher knowledge on God to the ignorant, uninitiated, benighted fools.

It's a beauty. I have no words to express my appreciation for this brilliant English translation of a Kabir couplet. So apt and sweetly rhymed. Thanks, Aniruddha Sir.

Kabir was singing for Lord and we are singing for him. You are too singing for Lord. Hare Krishna! Hare Krishna!

Superb translation...aptly titled. No point in displaying your art in front of ignorants neither they will understand nor will they appreciate. 5***
