Standards Busted Rusting Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Standards Busted Rusting

Standards busted rusting.
At the seams.
Leaving a quilt,
Once meticulously crafted.
Constructed and built,
To display a diversity.
Never this way to portray,
Idealist dreams to exhibit.

Then a created super hero.
Animated and caped.
As a mouse.
With unbelievable powers.
Mightier than all to declare...
'Here I come to save the day.
Mighty Mouse is on his way.'
At a time when in the 1950's,
Began using TV...
As a medium to remove,
Common sense.
And consciousness,
From minds.
Done as an experiment.
To find this effective.

And...
For many years since then,
Delusion to defend...
Its existence.
Has been,
On the battlefield of division.
Conflict, bigotry and racism.
By those permitted,
And allowed...
To use TV as a way to deceive,
Truth and the reality of it.
With an ease,
That leaves many people...
Believing truth is a threat.
To refuse to accept.
And protect against,
Any presence of it.
Even with death if necessary!
