The Beat - Poem by Josh Weiss

What is this beat,
Echoing from below
Moving my body
Moving my core
Making me move
My legs my feet
My knees shaking
My skin baking
Heat perspiring
This sound beating
With the beat of my heart
Beating the beat
Of war drums in battle
Unto a beating defeat
My arms swaying
My toes dancing
The beat
The beat
The beat of man
Animal desire
Instinctual beats
I cry aloud
I scream my voice
I shed my tears in joy
The beat
O God! This beat!
I move to the beat of mankind.
