The old EKTARA is lying half burned
among the wastes in the street corner
Like a disowned corpse in Manikarnika
The, lone string of its bosom broken
Of age and rust pulsates still in vain
To play a dirgege at its own funeral
It kept linked in its musical vibrations
The ascetic Baul singer's passionate soul
And the sanctuary of celestial ecstasy
Lost in its melody's swing Meera danced
And sang Bhajans that could merge herself
With Krishna, the Lord of love, and sublimate
It's unwise to lament the loss of mortals;
Soul of the EKTARA has already merged
With the universal musical immortality.
A poem of great depth filled with wisdom. Brilliant analogy
The sight of Ektara, half burned, can be a befitting image of human life
Thank you Suresh Kuma for reaching the soul of the poem
Lost in its melody's swing Meera danced And sang Bhajans that could merge herself With Krishna, the Lord of love, and sublimate. Meera's songs were always an attraction for me. a person who wanted to be one with God mystically. As you write dear poet, she wanted to emerge herself in the Lord of Love. thank you for this poem. tony
Thank you very much dear Dr.Tony. Every human being is an Ektara capable of giving out celestial melodies so sweet for all ears. Ektara, as you know, has been a singificanct instrument in music. The image of Meera with the Ektara is always an inspiration.
Such a beautiful analogy. With time everything lies in waste but the pleasure of soul is continuous and everlasting.
Thank you Savitaji very much for the comments. The immortals that the mortals create are marvellous and will continue everlastingly
Beautiful words of one stringed instrument. Can a melody reverbrate from a single string like a painter's brush on strokes. Beautiful words sir.
Thank you for the comments. To your query I may answer that Rktara is a very very old string instrument. Santh, Sadhoo and singers used it dearly. I firmly believe on the basis of evidence that the ancestry of modern string instruments ends in Ektara. Even today it is the dear instrument of the Baul singers
