THE ISLAND INSIDE
If no man is an island,
Why do I have an island inside?
A serene and secluded spot,
Which is surely only mine!
Away from the hustle and bustle,
And the commotions of daily life;
An evergreen sanctuary where
I retire from time to time!
Where I inhale the fragrance of those
exotic little flowers,
Losing track of time and the passing of
hours!
Those flowers waft their perfume in the
cool invigorating breeze,
Inspiring my inner thoughts;
Though occasionally they also tease!
May the good Lord forever bless,
My secret island resort;
Which lies hidden inside, my own
secluded thoughts!

Raj, you have echoed my sentiments.this is precisely what i have to do to connect to myself and Him. Budha preached this in his last sermon to his disciples, dimpa atta, dimpa sarana. Dimpa means self and Atta means island, and Sarana means refuge. ' taking refuge in the island of self, ' as he didn; t want them to mourn the death of his physical body.well composed Mamta
Some of us keep this island overpopulated, so instead of a resort it becomes a business hub…as outside as inside….but serene and sincere ones make this a resort, where when lonely finds tranquility and here these exotic flowers bloom for the benefit of the readers too…a nice fragrant poem breathing freshness into us…..
This poem reminds me the wordings from Kahlil Gibran 'Your life is an island separated from all other islands and continents. Regardless of how many boats you send to other shores or how many ships arrive upon your shores, you yourself are an island separated by its own pains, secluded in its happiness'
