The Letters To Heaven Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

The Letters To Heaven

Rating: 5.0

I envisioned G-d reading my letters
That I wrote when I was five
I hoped he would send me a friend
I wrapped them to a balloon
And sent it off....And waited
And waited....He never answered
Now, I am in my fifties
And wondered if they arrived
But probaably never got there
Since He didn't respond
However. I still think He will
And hoping for some sort of sign
As I still believe He will
When the letters arrive in heaven

I chocked up a bit reading this, truly heartbreaking, though I'm not god, but this reader feels that loneliness too. You are never alone LeeAnn. Take care!

I too thought of sending letters to God as a child for what reason I don't remember. But in my high school days when I started writing poems and stories, I wrote a long letter for God in heaven, but could never complete.God may be waiting for that letter ;)

This is such a beautiful poem expressing the innocence and naivete of childhood. And the theme of haunting loneliness. BTW, LeeAnn God had sent you more than just one friend...your parents whom you had so dearly loved. And let's not forget about your beloved dog!

It's interesting how poems can build on each other. I had just read and commented on the poem, Lone, But Not Lonely Poem by Evelyn Judy Buehler
