The Nameless Song Poem by Yasmin Khan

The Nameless Song

Rating: 4.9

How should I compose my song
For today’s night
Which verse to celebrate
The eventide
A symphony to greet
The Night of the Moon?

Like a heron’s wail through midnight
Or a bird’s warble at dawn
A pauper’s melancholy tone
Or a murmur of a streamlet that dances on the stones
Or like screams echoing across the vales
Or jubilant sounds on the shoulders of gales

My fingers tremble, totter
Between rapture and woe the spirits waver
Oscillations amid optimism and gloom
Some flowers wreathed for tombs
Tiny blooms stringed for tresses
Festivities, funerals, cries and laughs
Adorning lights, candles and epitaphs

A tune in mirth or a lament
To join gleeful lays or cheerless chants?

It's a wonderful poem. The poet's 'oscillations amid optimism and gloom' are clear and tangible. I would put my two cents on: 'a bird’s warble at dawn', and ' a murmur of a streamlet that dances on the stones', and ' jubilant sounds on the shoulders of gales', to sing 'A tune in mirth', 'To join gleeful lays'
