The New Born Child - Poem by Rashmi Ram

Watching the new born infant is such a wonderful feeling
Looking at its innocent eyes sends anyone’s senses reeling
It’s a time of life when there are no cares, no worries and no fuss
The child is initiated into the fold to become part of us.

Relatives pour in irrespective of it’s a girl or boy
Each one bringing cash, clothes or toys.
The elders all bless the child with long years
The little infant is blissful and has no fears.

The child smiles happily after a feed of milk
Such supple skin, it feels like silk
The baby willingly gives you a smile
You will feel like staying there for a long while.

The baby is cradled in her hands by the mother
She will not part with it to another
For the others playing with the infant is real fun
For the mother….she cannot rest until her work is done.

The proud father has visions of its bright future
The mother joy emerges in the form of a tear
Children are epitomes of god on earth they say
To ensure they have a wonderful future, we hope and pray.
