The Power Of Words - Poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen

They can be written
spoken, whispered,
hidden, forbidden,

They have their power
to be listened to,
to be read,
to be reflected,
or rejected.

They can build,
and rebuild
They can destroy
They can comfort
and heal.

Yes, they are creative, edifying, if rightly used vice versa. Nice thought! (Report) Reply

Yes, I do agree with you, Babatunde Aremu. Words can edify those who read. Let us continue to use words to inspire and edify us and others who read and hear our words.

Its like what A Tribe Called Quest said, the word is the herb deep as Bob Marley, so much can come out of words, the bad and the good, the power of the pen can be a great medicine, Words can unite us or conquer us, fantastic stuff. (Report) Reply

So very true, words power can do almost everything!
    Whether they are spoken words or written words;
they've got power to do or to undo! Well done, Elizabeth!

Words are the paints to a canvas of expression.
The finish product can be so abstract, that it no single person see it the same way.
Indeed it is a very well written and true poem.

Thanks, Kathleen, for taking time to respond. I think this is one of my very simple verses. But I think in simplicity it is also possible to communicate something deep. I think this is also something you agree.
