The Smell of Corpses

I smell a stench
from all directions
it comes and frightens me
it appears to be a scent of lifeless bodies
floating on the surface
like stems of chopped trees
the waves wash them away
until they settle on land
Insects gather on them
.
there is a stench
It is not gunpowder
rather, it is a stench
of the bodies of the dead roads at night
Shining under the bright lights
with the noise rising from the cafes
disturbs the silence
so one cannot hear
the Lyrics of eternity
.
in front of the gates of the villas
there is a long queue of beetles,
and in the schoolyard
relaxing groups of slugs,
as for scorpions
poking out their heads from holes of graves
then they crawl towards putrefied smell
without seeing
a human shadow
behind the window curtains
.
there is a stench
A dead grey smell
of rotten death
no one will be seen in the cemetery -
may be buried,
And the streets' trees
are irrigated with the same water
that cleanses
the Palace bedrooms' linens
then the trees give nothing but thorns
.
So the ants flee far away
to the tops of the mountains
there, they look and laugh
at people who
may gift the Sultan one day
The best types of tobacco
and other times
The finest Dagger
but they are now
as an empty bottle
looking for their heads!
.
There…
can be heard howling
from all directions
A Human howl!
without seeing anyone,
it is like a ghost town
or exile which
refuses to accept mankind
.
The howl may be heard from everywhere
without anyone recognizing others
as if the footprints of yesterday's tracks
have completely disappeared
.
All faces are the same
nobody knows each other's
and only one echo
rises from all directions
which is: 'death'
then it suddenly descends
on the roofs of barren spirits
Shreds the history and memory asunder
without causing any physical death!

Dear Valsa I am agree with your comments- they are full of logic expressions and great meanings such as: * The survivors are as good as the deceased. * This is a stark satire on the contemporary society and a startling picture of the disoriented generation.. Thanks for your generous comments..have a nice day

I am reminded of the famous line of Shakespeare.... ‘Something is rotten in the whole state of Denmark’. Yes, life here is rotten with no substantial values. People have lost all sense of direction and their priorities are shifted! This is a stark satire on the contemporary society and a startling picture of the disoriented generation. Top marks!

Only a feeling heart will write such sensitive poem. And I suppose you witnessed something that disturbed you beyond forbearance. A thought provoking poem.10++
