The Stranger Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

The Stranger

Rating: 5.0

Like an old Leonard Cohen song
I am a stranger in this place
Though, I never left my house
Never had reason to
I want to explore the city lights
And drink the wine that makes you jaded
I was in the dungeon writing poems alone
For a greater love
But that love never came
So, old age now consumes me
Like the punishment everyone gets
The spider's web has formed into a chain wrapped
Around my wrists and ankles
And the crucifix that I prayed to
Has laughed in my face
As it dances with the number of beasts
Of so-called crushes that were none existed
But without it, I am lost

That must be some 'dance'. I guess not being 'lost' is worth a prayer or two. Use 'has LAUGHED in my face'. : ) bri

A fine poem on solitude, loneliness and a sinking feeling of despair.
