The Trickster.. Poem by Veeraiyah Subbulakshmi

The Trickster..

Rating: 5.0

We are tinted with multiple colors of grey,
We are shaded with plentitude of strays,
We are wrapped with cold and wet clothes,
The creator is still good and He can do the magic.

We are tired of food, love and temptation,
We are worried for the future and its implication,
We are misguided to believe that we are on the vocation,
The creator is not bad as He has made all these tricks and estimation.

We are threatened of the security of the jobs and life,
We are drugged to live longer and to avoid the strife,
We are mesmerized to think tomorrow never arrives,
Praise the creator who is good at all these enjoyable vice.

I like your poems in general and this poem has potential. I like the themes and the intent but if you're going to rhyme you need to rhyme throughout. The first stanza and last stanzas last lines jar and are awkward on the tongue. Read it out loud. See if you can finish it with a little more style and grace. I'd give this mediocre 5/10 but it could be a great 10/10 poem with a little work.

We are shaded with plentitude of strays… Thank you for the comment, explanation, clarification and the interrogation, Bri. Edwards. When we look at ourselves superficially, we may not see anything very unusual, but physically; photographically and spiritually the stray objects, characters, unknown and unidentified things are everywhere in the universe, in the earth and in our hearts, so I assume that we are shaded with the shadows of those strays. The definition for vice is very vast and this term can hold different meaning politically, legally, philosophically and religiously and I am not interested in all those definitions, except, whatever is considered as illegal and sin are known to the Gods, as they know the three stages and subdivisions of time: past, present and future. When the Gods themselves have known that this action or incident would happen in the future, they simply let those actions to continue for a while, so I assume the Gods too good at vices. If someone loves another, it is considered as the sacred, but the same love develops into obsession, jealous, envious and many other negative characters, those are considered as vices. The basic for every action is ‘the love for something’. Thank you all for your wonderful comments..

i would die to read a poet note explaining a few things. i don't get the use of strays (dogs? loose hairs?) and vice, among other things. BUT overall i enjoyed the poem. i appreciated the rhymes and the flow of the poem. i liked the title and the reference to it later. i liked the use of We at the beginning of all those lines, but not the last line of each stanza. thanks for sharing. i especially enjoyed this line: We are drugged to live longer and to avoid the strife, . that line could supply material for several more poems. :) p.s. regarding p. brookes' comment: i don't agree that you need to rhyme throughout. i saw your comment on HIS comment. i wouldn't mind if a mirror web site copied some/or all of my poems, as long as they didn't change them or attribute them to someone else.............and if they do, so what! well, i wouldn't want them to change them and STILL attribute them to me. i never publish except as i submit to this site and send to friends and relatives sometimes. but, if publishing is your goal, then i certainly don't blame you for being cautious. yeah, Babatumbe would say that, and he is welcome to say it. thanks for sharing, poet and readers all. :) bri

Thank you Paul Brookes, all my poems here in PH have been written spontaneously on the screen and these poems have to be edited for further publication. There are so many mirror web sites which have copied my poems without seeking permission. I could understand your good intention and thank you again for the comment..
