To My First Born Poem by Uzefa Rashida M.A

To My First Born

Rating: 4.1

TO MY FIRST BORN

Do I feel you in my senses
or don't I?
These questions ever bother me
as years pass on by.
I wait for you all day
I long for you my dear
My days seem too long
And sleepless are my nights.

I have gathered all the love
in abundance you will see
for I am waiting for you to come
to shower it on thee.

You never know me more
for you never have felt,
the want, the longing, the years that flee,
have found me bold.
There seems no end to this,
but I know that a day shall come,
My prayers shall be heard,
I shall be blessed with thee.

The Almighty always seems,
to test his beloved ones,
Do thank him my dear ever
for I have always stood true.

I am waiting for the day
When you shall be with me,
Your soft caress and fragrance
will enter into me.
Now that you read this,
Let it, to you be known
This waiting is for none
but for you my first born.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I was childless for 12 years when on the night of 25 January 2007, I wrote this poem with a heavy heart, tears in my eyes a craving for at least one child, with a hope that my child would read this poem one day. I was blessed and she was born on 31st December 2007. My true feelings still linger in every word which had great hopes. I feel my poem could be a ray of hope for every childless mother. In shaa Allah.

Uzefa, I could relate with every line you have written here, for I too have passed through such an experience. I got pregnant after twelve years of long waiting! Now from your biography I understand that you too are a teacher! So there are similarities between you and me! When you get time, please read my poem- To My Elder Son. The intensity of your maternal fervour, I can very well feel!

the want, the longing, the years that flee, There seems no end to this, My prayers shall be heard, I shall be blessed with thee.... An amazing experience from the life of the poet delightfully shared through this lovely poem. It will give solace to women whose dream of becoming a mother takes a couple of years to fulfill. Thanks. Loved reading it.
