Trust Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Trust

Trust.
Noticed by more today,
Rusting.
And becoming ignored.
Like most things,
That begin to collect dust.
Will again,
Be found to have value.
By those who rediscover to find,
Without trust in their lives...
How is it they expect and accept,
Honesty expressed from someone else.
If trust they don't have,
To either offer it given.
Or remember what it was.
When theirs to have had it,
Had been so long ago to know it felt.
That it to recognize,
Has for them...
Undergo suspicion first.
Then be scrutinized for its sincerity.

Trust.
Once valued to prioritize as a must.
Today?
That must to have,
Has been trashed so bad.
Even those with kept faith,
Question sacred places...
Where they go to kneel and pray.
If the doing of this,
Can be trusted to do.
Near someone else,
Enough to trust.
Without wondering if...
Their honesty is loyal.
And how is it this can be proven.

"Excuse me.
I am here to pray.
And you? "

-And me what? -

"Why and for what purpose and reason,
Are you here?
You neither look or dress,
Like the rest of us who are devoted."

-Uh...
What? -
