'No one will ever know.'
I'll know. And I have to live with myself.
'It won't hurt anybody.'
Sorry, but everything has consequences.
'You only live once'.
That's right, so I wisely protect my life.
'Everyone is doing this'.
But I choose to be special, not ordinary.
'You can stop if you don't like it'.
Maybe... but I'd rather not start.
'This is your only chance.'
Pressure doesn't work. I believe in 2nd chances.
'If you really loved me, you would'.
If you really love ME, you won't.
'Come on, one time won't hurt you'.
Those could be famous last words.
A riveting, engaging dialogue, between you and a man. You refuse his offer-which many would accept- as you 'choose to be special'. To have the special life of a writer, different from most other people, demands sacrifices, which you are prepared to make. So am I incidentally. Tremendous insight into character in this poem.
Thank you, Michael, for gleaning deeper meaning from this poem. One can follow the crowd and destroy/ ruin their life, or one can choose to set a higher standard and make a difference in the world. Your comment is very much appreciated! :)
Thank-you, Alison. Glad to see you- - Missed you on site for awhile. (I know; sometimes real life takes precedence over cyberlife. But cyberlife can be so much more fun!)

Dr. Tony, thank you so much for giving this poem some attention. It is not one of my favourites or one of my better ones, but you have treated it as though it were special! : -)
