POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My daughter and grandsons came from Anchorage to Seattle for the holidays. I visited them at my ex-wife's house. When I left early in the morning, my 20-month-old grandson was awake. He wanted to go with me.

Holding shoes to the chest shows his immense urge to go with me. One can understand how much attached he is to you on spending some time with you!

Wow- Separation from a loving Grandfather must be painful for a 20 month old child who does not know the intricacies of life. You have painted the picture powerfully in this Haiku.
