War Poem by Bob Blackwell

War

Rating: 5.0

Let the war begin.
missiles fired from afar
high above bombs are dropped,
missiles fall, bombs explode.
Down below,
fire and noise;
smoke and dust, lights go out,
and buildings gone,
streets on fire,
we cannot see,
there’s panic now,
rush here, rush there.
Help must come!
The noise is deafening,
buildings are falling,
women screaming,
bombs exploding. Hundreds dead.
People wounded, bodies flung far and wide.
Streets are blocked,
debris scattered everywhere.
People dying, many crying,
many injured,
blood and flesh are everywhere.
many bodies to repair.
Hospitals hit, no medicine, no bandage,
no support and all the time the bombs are falling.

The reason for this War?
Victory won country conquered!
But, many people have been killed because of this?
Never mind we’ll repair; we’ll make new,
big profits to be found!
But, what happens now?

Bob, your poem certainly takes the glamour of war away. Very good write.

From spouses in little houses to presidents in big white houses and every grouping of humanity in between our capacity to make war on one another has never been lacking in the human condition despite having learned again and again the futile nature of the beast that war unshackles. I love the rhythm of this piece.

A THOUGHT PROVOKING POEM! 10! ALAS! THERE CAN BE NO WAR TO END ALL WARS! IT REMAINS AS THE CONTINUATION OF DIPLOMACY BY OTHER MEANS! THIS MADE SHELLEY WRITE HIS -'Ozymandias of Egypt'! A traveller from a distant land finds the shattered statue of King Ozymandias lying in ruins, with his face half buried in the desert sand! And on the pedestal these words appear, -'My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; look on my works and despair! ' Nothing beside remains... of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare; The lone and level sands stretch far away! ' This is how Shelley ends the poem! -Raj Nandy

the reason is not as straight as it was before...before they wanted to conquer and become mightier..today our diplomats play a game of sorts..they evoke fear, hatred and whatnot even'nationalism' is used as an excuse to promote war...readmy poem 'war field' and 'The alien rule'

Your short, staccato delivery superbly mimics the firing of the guns of your rage. This is a splendid poem Bob with the irony in the last line finishing the piece with a bang. Great work. Love Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
