Was That The Door Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Was That The Door

There was a ring at the door followed by rapid taps.
Hesitant I slowly walked to the door.
I was curious to who would come over so late,
Every kind of emergency flashed through my mind
But everyone knows to call before they come.
Especially so late into the night.
It was too late to cut the lights off and pretend I wasn't there.
Home alone, lost in thought.
The television was loud, masking most of the urgent knocks.
I quickly thought of the news bulletins of all the craziness going on in the world.
And thought best look out of the blinds,
I saw an odd shape but it was much too dark to tell who it was.
I started to open the door then but a sense of security still loomed.
I just had to see who it was before I opened the door.
I didn't really want to be bothered, especially around that time of night.
I ran upstairs to look out the window then it became clear.
I opened the window and called out. realizing whom it was,
alas it was too late,
A car door flung open and drove off just before I could open the door.
It was her heart speeding off the other direction
