We Had To Let Go - Poem by Cally A. Nixon

We knew the day would come,
when you would be gone...
Disappearing like night,
in morning's dawn.

We knew that you can't have life without death,
but we didn't want ot believe...
To believe that some day,
you would have to leave.

Everything good and meaningful,
has to end sooner or later...
We just wish it wasn't you,
chosen by your creator.

We held you trapped in your human shell,
for too much time...
But to let you go,
felt like such a crime.

To let go of a person,
who shone with such light...
All we wanted was,
to hold you tight.

Finally,
we came to realize...
We were holding you to a state,
that we knew you would despise.

We let go of the one tie,
holding you to this world...
And let you got to heaven,
and join the Lord.
