Woman On The Run Poem by Donna Nimmo

Woman On The Run

Rating: 5.0

She sits trembling with fear as tears slide down her face
She hears his car back firing in the driveway as he ends this chase
He’s been stalking her and she runs once again for her life
Dear god in heaven, how could she have let him make her his wife

She has to sleep with a knife under her pillow, in case he should break in
She wouldn’t stand a chance, he’s so strong he would win
Moving real often now, hiding anywhere she can
If only he’d never find her, she must come up with a better plan

This time he keyed her car and ran her off the road
She’s so afraid of him, carrying such a load
He told her if he couldn’t have her, he wouldn’t let her live
Too many scars and broken bones for her to ever forgive

He’s told her they will find her body in a dumpster
She’s got small children, so this can’t occur
He finds where she works, and threatens all the time
She has a restraining order, he knows this is a crime

So many women have to face this fear, each and everyday
The ones they love most, a lot of times make them their prey
Why can’t we get involved, and try to help them get free
I know a lot about this, because them used to be me!
