You'Ve Got To Respect Me Poem by Paula Glynn

You'Ve Got To Respect Me

I work harder than you know,
Because I have inner strength and see things through,
And I am brimming over with confidence,
Never giving up or giving in,
I just walk with my head held high,
As my dreams touch the sky and turn into reality,
I just love being me and want you to love me for me,
Whether you're my brother, sister or friend,
But everyone is my friend, because I respect myself,
And I don't back down or give up the fight,
For this soul is strong, this soul has seen the light,
And I feel happiness, as I keep my head above water,
And I am a dutiful person, who can see different points of view,
And what I say is always true: even those little white lies,
Because there is a limit to how much I will give away about myself,
And I don't want everyone to question my decisions,
Because this is my life and my choice,
And when I am ready, I will use my voice,
Because I have something to say and things to do,
So you've got to respect me,
Whatever it is I do.
