A LUMP:
For a month and more I've had a neck 'lump' ……,
like a burl on a ….Redwood tree stump.
I played the game of 'wait and see'. THEN …….
my dentist at my cleaning said 'WOW! '.
At first I thought it strange that he'd use that word,
but, sure, other words would be MORE absurd.
Next I'll see an …………..O-to-lar-yn-gol-o-gist.
The lump is small enough that my wife missed …….
seeing it earlier.
AFTER the dental cleaning I ….'told her'.
That I'd 'waited'.....DID raise my mate's ‘fur'.
Waited a month to have it ‘checked out'! !
Waited a month to ……..‘tell her' about ……
'it'! ! !
Well, …………I'm 68 years old for goodness sake.
I've lived well and ‘long'. I'm ready to take ….
my leave.
Of course this 'lump' may NOT spell my ‘end'.
‘Doc' may say 'wait and see', ….. THEN ……..
send me home.
It COULD be cancer, OR ……somethin' else;
something else much more benign. It's TRUE!
In any case I'LL decide what to do.
An IRONY:
[It's ironic, about 'lump', and ‘my wife and me' aka ‘we'.]
When ‘we' met she said SHE was to die first!
A few years later she said 'I don't care'. [who's first]
You see, our first few years together were our worst;
she felt, before five years, our marriage would BURST, …..
or so she spoke.
She may not have cared THEN, …..and NOT me missed!
But, NOW we're ‘clicking'. NOW she may by quite 'pissed ……
off' ……if I die first.

****** (SEE Poet's Notes please)
good luck Bri. I too have had trouble: check my poem 'Clammy'
I think the 'not knowing and the waiting for a diagnosis' thing is the worst part when faced with questionable lumps and bumps. Hoping all will be good.
i should have and do plan to put into my Poet's Notes: i planned to ask the dentist about the lump i would not have waited much longer to consult with a doctor; i knew the dentist would have an opinion and luckily he could make a referral [required by some specialists around here, but not by our insurance company]. an online source suggests having a 'lump' looked at if it lasts longer (in the neck area anyway) for more than 2 weeks. my wife's pressure over the phone helped to secure a relatively-soon-to-occur appointment at the ENT office. she told them she thought the need was urgent, not routine as the referral was checked by the dental office. bri :)
I hope everything is ok Bri. Glad you and your wife worked out your differences and she wants you to hang around with her as long as possible. Stay well!
Bri, I am really forward to hearing that all is and shall be OK. Let us know.
It is a little disturbing to hear it....! But as ever, I give the allowance of doubt to what you say! Even if there is a lump, I am sure it is benign! Don't expect to leave on a high note now! Let there be years and years for you to make others laugh! I feel happy that your partner reacted the way any caring and loving wife would do! If it were my husband who concealed such a thing from me, I would have boxed him to death! Take care... though there is no reason for alarm(?) or excitement! I loved the irony part! As years go by, the bond tightens! It is true love! Greatly enjoyed Eugine Levich's comment! Yes, it could be a piece of pizza stuck in the throat'! !
I shall make a typical female remark and say TYPICAL MAN, why won't you lot go to the doctor when the need arises. no weeks or months down the line...and that been said I do hope it all goes well Bri x

I would like to translate this poem
Tell wifey not to worry- it's probably just a bit of pizza stuck in your throat. Let me know what insurance you carry and send me the co-pay.
