Albert Einstein 56 - bob Dicke's Experiments Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Albert Einstein 56 - bob Dicke's Experiments

Rating: 5.0

Many scientists experimented with Einstein's
Theory of Relativity. Of them, Bob Dicke's
Experiments needs to be specially mentioned here,
As it became one of the most tested and trusted
Practical application of Einstein's "Relativity Theory".
Hailing from Missouri in United States,
Bob Dicke, created a high-tech version of
Galileo's experiment. Einstein had built on
The "Equivalence principle" of Galileo, wherein,
"the gravitational and inertial masses are identical".

"Bob Dicke placed three masses, two of aluminium
And one of gold on a hypersensitive torsion balance.
He then. launched it into space. In weightless conditions,
where the orbit of the spacecraft nullifies the earth's gravity,
The entire torsion balance should fall toward the sun.
If gravitational and inertial mass are different,
The aluminium and gold should fall toward the sun
At slightly different rates, which could be measured
Easily by torsion balance.
Dicke found no significant difference."

Dicke had already tested the ‘Principle of Equivalence".
But he was always curious to find out ‘if some relic of
Radiation would be found undetected in the universe.'
Like other physicists, Dicke was not bowled over
By the magnificence of Einstein's Theory.
He was beyond the elegance of Einstein's ‘Relativity'.
But by conducting these intricate, high precision tests,
Dicke became the greatest supporter of Einstein's Theory.
With every stringent experiment, Dicke proved Einstein right,
Thanks to Dicke for his contribution to the success of Einstein's Theory.

Well! I can imagine Einstein resting on his arm chair,
With a smug smile and a twinkle in his eyes,
Knowing all along that he is the ultimate winner,
As of today, no one has proved him wrong!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Here is a sincere attempt to write the biographical life and works of Dr. Albert Einstein. Poems 51,52,53,54,55, & 56 on "The Theory of Relativity" have been the most difficult to write, as it required understanding of Einstein research in the field of his greatest inventions in Physics. All information and inputs on ‘Dr. Einstein's Theory of Relativity' are taken from the book " Albert Einstein - A Biography by Alice Calaprice & Trevor Lipscombe, From Chapter 7 of the book entitled - ‘The Road to General Relativity' For detailed explanation of Albert Einstein's Research Papers on this topic, please read books published by Princeton University Press.1. ‘Albert Einstein - A biography' by Alice Calaprice & Trevor Lipscombe 2019.2. Collected Papers of Albert Einstein (CPAE) various editors and translators, Vol.1 to 9, Princeton, N.J, Princeton University Press.3. ‘Einstein's Miraculous Year' by Alice Calaprice and Sam Elworthy 4. Albert Einstein - New York, Viking. Dear Friends and Poets, Thank you for reading these poems on the life and work of Dr.Albert Einstein. I remain most grateful and thankful for your beautiful feedback and comments! Much obliged!

Theory of relativity has been interpreted by many scientists in many different ways but Bob's interpretation is quite valid and significant... Great write dear madam! !

Part 5. But, WW I broke out in 1914. The entire team of Freundlich was captured by Russian army and their equipment was confiscated. Mission failed

Part 4. Einstein encouraged him to go ahead with the experiment. In August 1913, he wrote, "Nothing more can be done by the theorists. In this matter, it is only you, the astronomers, who can …perform invaluable service to theoretical physics ".

Part 3. He wanted to measure the gravitational bending of light, which was possible only during an eclipse. He planned the experiment during the full solar eclipse of 1914.

Part 2. While we speak about Dicke's experiments, we also should recall the aborted experiments of Freundlich, which were to be conducted at the Crimea in Russia during the full solar eclipse in 1914. Freundlich was a young astronomer from Berlin who believed in Einstein, maybe, more than himself.

After reading about Dicke's experiments that confirmed Einstein's General Relativity over and over, I too could just imagine him in his armchair with that smug smile on his face. He knew all through that he was right.5 stars ⭐️
