All Around Me - Poem by Sydelle someone

I see
Children scrounge in the dumpsters
Exclaiming when they found a half eaten bagel
A girl with hollow eyes
Blankly stares at the world outside
Silent screams
Echo from the jail
All around me
These things are there
Everyone else hides
Behind the glitz, the glitter
Leading their superficial lives
I have to unravel the lies
All around me
Elegant women and men
Mingle at a fancy soiree
While outside
A man in ragged clothes
Tries to keep his tired old heart beating
They blind themselves
From the black
They see only a well groomed city
All around me
They fail to see the holes in our society
A mom waits on line holding her children by the hand
grocery shopping
A mom waits on line holding her children by the hand
for food stamps
All around me
In a dark, dark neighborhood
A drug addict
Begs, one last syringe
He pleads
I need to live
He cannot fuel
That big hole inside
Sucking his soul
Leaving a shell behind
We live in this type of world
Can no one else see
To open their eyes
And see the pain
All around me?
