An Amazing Flight - Poem by Savita Tyagi

Perched high on a tree branch roosts the bird alone
Her flock scattered across the valley
Some flying high in sky, some gathering seeds on ground
Her eyes roll over to green meadows
Her thoughts venture into the largeness of sky
Nothing ties her to the old tree branch except the memories reverberating in her heart.
Her nest once full with chirping sound of her offsprings
Carries the sound of her own voice like that of a stranger
She watched the azure sky and the golden orb
Saw the hazy clouds floating above the solitary hills
Felt the rustle of wind in her feathers
And decided it was time to fly
Across the meadows beyond the sunset.

But the weight of memories
She found a burden too heavy to carry
The bird touched the nest with her beak
Laid her tender memories gently to rest and flew away free
Circling the sky and gliding gracefully with spread out wings
The flight was amazing since the bird flew light.

Poet's Notes about The Poem

Reading Kelly Kurt's poem 'The fledgling Thoughts' I was reminded of this old poem of mine though written from a mother's point of view wanting to have a little freedom when the nest starts to get empty' It was on my blog but never shared on PH. Thanks to Kelly I have put it on now.

Inspired by real life situations, the poem brings about realities and emotions attached thereto. I fondly quote the following lines:
Her nest.... / Carries the sound of her own voice like that of a stranger.... / Laid her tender memories gently to rest and flew away free

The empty nest is symbolic of a sense of loneliness the parents experience once the fledglings have flown away! The mother bird particularly will be experiencing mixed feelings of joy and sorrow. Her heart will be always with the little ones who have flown away. This weighs her down and restricts her free movement! Enjoyed this highly symbolic write, Savita! (Report) Reply
