The crow among the pigeons—
his awkward gait.
A friend whose walk is like the crow's
because of joint replacements.
My sister with her cane and her RA
but hiking on the difficult trail.
The neighbor with her walker now
I used to see with spaniels on their leashes.
Any way that we can move—a gift.
But O to mount with wings!
There may be so many hurdles in life one has to face but no one surrenders so easily. A beautiful poem indeed.Loved it.
thank you, anil. the human spirit is capable of so much and so often amazing. may we keep on walking. -glen
Such a splendid poem.I particularly like the last two lines- Any way that we can move—a gift. But O to mount with wings! - - - - -
Hey, Bharati! Thank you for reading this poem and your kind comments. In the background of the last line is something from the prophet Isaiah; there it says that those who wait on God shall mount up with wings like the eagle’s. In Hebrew the same word is used for spirit and wind, and eagles to rise depend on warm winds or updrafts. Cool image! Hoping this finds you very well, Glen
You recognize the wear and tear of life and then brush aside any regrets and show people overcoming their limitiations - with a prophecy at the end pf transcendence,
Hey, Daniel! Good to hear from you. I actually just tried sending another message which, it appears, got lost in PH wonkiness. Isn’t it a drag to have to start all over! ? Anyway, I admire people who I think are like me and can’t imagine not moving their bodies—even if they can’t move it like they used to. And, as you understand, I appreciate the soaring our minds and spirits can do. Be blessed, brother, and take flight. -Glen
I just love this poem. O to mount with wings! That would be amazing. It brings me back to my childhood dreams of flying. I don't have those dreams anymore....and as I age, I can feel every joint, every muscle, but do I ever keep moving...do I ever! I have RA, but it is controlled with medication...but when it is not under control, it's very challenging. Kudos to your sister for keeping on!
Thanks, Jette. I’m glad you like this poem. My sister is also on medication, her toes are not normally aligned, but she keeps on trucking! I tend to think her six grandchildren help with motivation. Appreciate your comments. Grace to you inside and out to keep moving! -Glen

Amen to this one. To move is to hope.
Hey, Smoky! Good to meet you here on PH. To move is hope... hmmm... never thought of it like that, but I think there's something to that. Thank you for reading my poem and commenting. Be well! -Glen
