Be By My Side- A Prayer Poem by Valsa George

Be By My Side- A Prayer

Rating: 5.0

In the wild confusion of my life, I see your face
A kind countenance making bright my days
Through rugged tracks when I stumble along
I feel an unseen hand holding me strong

When bewildered by the thoughts of death
You assure me that life extends beyond mortal breath
As I get lost in the dank and dark alley of wickedness
You divert my steps into the well lit path of righteousness

When I gloat over my own trivial accomplishments
You remind me of my littleness through mild chastisements
When I lose myself in the grip of vanity
You open my inner eye to restore my sanity

When tossed by the currents of fiery storms
Oh, Lord! Make me seek the safety of your arms
When drowning in the sea of escalating pain
Strengthen and sustain me, and keep me sane

Make me feel, you are there in every rhythm of life
More when life becomes burdensome with problems rife
Over the arid deserts and the stormy turbulent sea
I pray, you be with me as an abiding presence piloting me

My Lord! Without you my life will be in peril
Never let me fall into the snares of the devil
Do not desert me, stay by my side now and ever
Be my guiding light, sanctify every one of my endeavour

To me, this prayer is fit to be recited at morning assemblies in each and every school apart from being a prayer for every single soul elsewhere. This prayer has squeezed into it the righteousness and other virtues which we have read about in various prayers in our day to day life. What an appeal! ! When I pride over my own trivial accomplishments You remind me of my helplessness through mild chastisements When I lose myself in the grip of vanity You open my inner eye to restore my sanity.

In the wild confusion of life a soul wanders here and there and definitely watches the face of God in imagination to find the path. He urges Lord to keep him in safety and prays for release out of pain and agony. Very nice and wonderful prayer poem shared on. Hearty touching.

You have composed a modern day version of a PSALM. Not like the one translated as MY LORD IS A MIGHTY MAN OF WAR. (KING JAMES BIBLE - A Man of War was actually the largest British warship with one hundred cannon - I'm not sure what the original Hebrew says, but it too would be a bellicose image.) Your psalm is close in spirit to the ones with pastoral settings like THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD, and it focuses on God's gifts to us and our gratitude. It reveals good will and blessings on both sides of the divine-human interchange. And that restores some of the purity of our lives which overflows in childhood and then dries up unless fructified by the Prayer of Thanksgiving. Your prayer is much needed in this world where people MUST chant Je Suis Charlie.
