Bird 3 - Hamsa - The Swan Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Bird 3 - Hamsa - The Swan

Rating: 4.7

Irreproachable bird of paradise- The Hamsa!
Imperturbable demeanour,
Impeccable like the snow-white maiden,
Immune to the turbulence outside,
Immensely dignified paddling through the pond,
Ingenious disposition,
Immersed in meditative trance,
Intense queen among the Aves!

Attractive shimmering white Swan,
Aphrodite's apple of the eyes,
Apollo's golden chariot-
Amorous pair of endearing birds,
Adaptable Jupiter's disguise to meet his love Leda,
Affable Goddess of Love -Freya-
Attired in swan-like puffy sea foams,
Ardent Goddess of Love!

The vehicle of the creator-The Brahma,
The first of the Hindu Trinity,
The Guru of the Supreme Knowledge
The enlightenment!
The Goddess of learning-Sarasvati
The chaste spouse of Brahma,
The lovely pair of swans flanking on either side,
The embodiment of learning and wisdom!

Majestic bird that glides gracefully into the
Minds of elevated souls like the Monks and Munis,
Muddy water-yet untouched, unsullied,
Magnetic perception to distinguish water from
Milk- the essence absorbed in perfect proportion,
Meditating chant-Ham-Sa! So-Ham!
Mantra of the Saints and Seers,
Magnificent Yogic posture - the Hamsäsana!

It is a wonderful creation in your pen. So touching and so haunting. Swan is not only a beautiful bird but also a spiritual bird. It has been astutely inscribed here through alliteration. Let me quote some lines..... Muddy water-yet untouched, unsullied, Magnetic perception to distinguish water from Milk- the essence absorbed in perfect proportion, Meditating chant-Ham-Sa! So-Ham! Mantra of the Saints and Seers, Magnificent Yogic posture - the Hamsäsana! Thanks for sharing.
