Bread And Wine Poem by Gary Hembree

Bread And Wine

Rating: 4.8

Drink this wine for it is his blood.
Eat this bread for it is his body.
Cannibalizing in his name.
We think not of any reason.
To wonder why its just okay.
To do this for his acceptance's.
For an inappropriate love.
That no one seems to get.
Perhaps its gone to far.
To cast blame on something different.
But heres to my health and heres to you.
I thank thee for your body.
I thank thee for your blood.
Its time for me now to feast upon your face.
As the good book did tell us so.
But hey thats just my opinion.

Sarcastic ponderings without knowing what is going on...interesting. Good use of the word cannibalizing as it is very appropriate for the topic. And some people do understand the tradition, but maybe you have to be one of them to know the mystery. This poem could have been more offending and compelling, but maybe the author did us a favor by shrugging the message off as his own opinion in a very cleverly disguised way.
