Broken Smiles And Burnt Out Stars - Poem by ZoeLeigh Vaughan

I watch as you tell me everything is ok, I see you put on that fake smile you wear too much these days. I watch as the spark in your eyes slowly starts to fade away and I wonder how much longer it will be before you do the same.

If I spent the next hundred years gathering up all the burnt out stars in the sky would it bring back the person you used to be....I don't think so. Your innocent ears have been blackened by horror and violence, your pure eyes destroyed through hatred and anger.

I watch as you fall lower and lower and watch as it becomes harder and harder for you to keep on putting on that fake smile of yours, how even that smile is becoming broken, a mirror of your old broken smile you use to wear.

I would spend the next thousand years gathering all the burnt out stars in the sky if it would fix that broken smile of yours.
