Deep red and luscious
Cherries too tempting to leave
Hanging on the tree
The children were quick
To fill their baskets with speed
Before dawn could break
The trees were soon bare
When the farmers awakened
They just stared in shock
Same thing happens to my Lilac bush! Except it is often so loaded you don't really miss if they even took a whole buckets full of blooms. Thanks for the humorous picture you painted..(smile)
These three haiku flow really freely to create a short story which is very well told. I love 'deep red and luscious'. We are starting to have cherries displayed in fruit shops and it wouldn't be Christmas in Australia to me without cherries. 10 love Karin
Thanks Indira, I have implemented your suggestion...it does change the direction of the poem in a very positive way...
should have replaced 'thieves' with 'children' for a more lucid picture and the time sometime during a lazy afternoon...'thieves' the very word marred the beauty, i feel...
honest, Sandra this reminds me of my childhood days, when we raided the orchards in my home town. very vivid composition, brought alive with good imagery. Mamta
This is an excellent and very succinct write, Sandra, one that's very expressive and exceptionally well thought out. It was a pleasure to read this fine poem. Carl.
Succinct and excellent exposition of truth. Beauty and taste provoke thieves sooner than gold. CP
