Dan Jordan

Darkness

Darkness, darkness is most dreary and glum compared
To light, for light is the joy of spring and the warmth of a
Beautiful summer, but darkness is a spring which is bleak
And dead with life, followed by a summer which is as cold
As a bloody knife.

Light is the joy of receiving presents upon Christmas day,
But darkness is the horror-stricken sight of someone dying in vain.

Indeed, light is the happiness and lovingness of life, but darkness is The Painstaking experience of arguing with your beloved wife.

I tell you my friend, darkness is most dreary and glum
Compared to light, for light is the sweet full sound of
Sparrows twittering upon a warm summers day, but darkness
Lurks about the dead of night; about the eerie shadows
Upon a bitter cold winters night.

A really great read. The way you compare the light verses the dark evokes a sense of the duality in all of us. Though for some of us one is always closer to the surface than the other. And, lately for myself the darkness is coming up for air more often than not. I could really connect with this poem. I am not you but it seems to me that you are showing the reader that even if we live in the dark at this moment the light is always ahead of us. Keep it up.

Since this poem was titled 'Darkness' instead of 'Darkness vs Light' or 'Dark and Light, etc. may the reader assume that in fact you dwell among the darkness? Perhaps this was just the mood at the time you wrote this?
    Hugs,
    Dee

piece brilliantly written...great....deserves praises...vivid picture of light and darkness and its differences...but we appreciate light because of darkness....so with our life....
this Christmas season, may we make peace and be a lamp to bring light into the darkness.....
....your piece serves as light into the darkness...more power...more brilliant write to share with...10++++++++

Hey Dan, theese compariosn do not correlate or coincide other than light and dark, usually in comparisons, there some type of correlatoin rather than just detailed opposties, i hope you get me.

Such as: darkness the heaving dreary slug, that only blinds and stumbles a being, while light is expedient, worrieless, that guides and brings life.

Those are just some ideas, do you see what I mean, though?

I know it's your own style, but the structure would give some more enlightne you wiht that

    'Thanks For Your Consideration.

Light and dark, what an interesting couple. Without the other, how to appreciate either?
