My very good friend, V. George, was told a tale by me "of late"….
(aka "recently") , a story of an event in my life near 50 years ago.
There was a reason the story (about a ditch) , to "V", I did relate.
I'll now relate it to YOU all; pardon me ….IF the relating's slow!
First I'll switch to my usual rhyme scheme, or at least try my best.
Most of my 20s I was a bachelor; at 29 I succumbed to a groom's vest.
Once married I needed to get paid more..for my ‘40 hours per week'.
I took a Postal Service exam, ...as a postal clerk's job I did seek.
[…and I succeeded in getting a decades-lasting job from which I retired at 55.]
But, BEFORE the postal job, I drove (2 years)a delivery truck &
one mild winter day, in western N.Y. State, my truck got stuck ….
...in a shallow ditch on a country road, a ditch filled with snow.
I'd pulled off pavement and did not see the ditch.Into ditch one wheel did roll.
It was in the days of no cell phones; I don't recall a country phone BOOTH.
And my truck had no dashboard ‘truck-to-base radio'.'Tis the truth.
But somehow I managed to contact ‘home' and I 'begged' for "Help! ! "
I waited patiently at my truck, crying no tears and making no yelp.
So I and the truck were delivered from the sneaky snow-covered ditch.
I had to miss one or more deliveries, but my boss did NOT b-i-t-c-h.
In response to my story, Valsa ‘said' this: "So you can survive any situation …right? Make it into a poem." .......& I said ‘I might'.

dear Bri, GREAT POEM, Bri! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! i usually i give your poems all 10s, but this one i will give a 14! ! ! bri :) thought i was ready to submit my poem, which i'd typed on 'Microsoft Word" , but once i copied and pasted into the PH 'submit a new poem'-page. i ended up editing it a lot to shorten the lines. i think it came out pretty well. ' bri :)
I admire your ability Bri for creating wonderful rhyme from life's happenings. Reading your poem I was remindind of my husband sliding in the snowy ditch with his car and waiting for help. Yes those were the days of no cells....
A fascinating story that vividly depicts how we can cope with a mishap on the road. You are lucky, Bri that it was not that tragic accident. Great imagery and nice rhyme.
Sometimes I wonder how you can find a rhyme even when in snowy condition. See , how you made a struck truck into a poem!
Oh Bri great write as always you take the path not trodden and end up at the best place great piece enjoyed thanks
I never even dreamt that you would turn your story of falling into a ditch into a poem so fast! However you have done it on my request and I feel honored! Thanks a lot Bri.... dear good friend! Let me repeat once again..... you'll survive any hard situation in life as you have so much of resilience.....!
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
