Why do they call Autumn, 'Fall'?
Is it because of the leaves, and all?
And what they do, after they turn
Before you rake them up to burn?
There really must be a reason
For such a strange name for the loveliest season
The only thing I have found
Is since the leaves drop, and fall to the ground.
Perhaps it's because it's so easy to fall
In love with my favourite season of all!
Such great imagery in this write Practicing Poetess and interesting too! I often wonder why we have certain names for things and fall falling in love for the Season is the perfect reason. Also the beautiful leaves that fall. But I'll be intersted to see what you can come up with for the two seasons Captian Curr challenged you to do! Fall is my seoond favorite season. I'm sure you can guess my first!
Thanks, Aqua. I'm sure it's a no-brainer that your fav season is Summer- - But NOT MINE! I hate to sweat; I hate sunburn and blisters and freckles and sand-fleas and jellyfish and beestings- - and high electric bills! I already answered the Captain's challenge- - you can read our replies here on this page. Love it when it begins to cool down!
Strange name and loveliest season both carry reason behind. The reason must be felt with love and seasonal perception. An interesting poem is beautifully penned...10
A gorgeous write for the lovely autumnal season. So now we know why it is called fall, perhaps it is called Spring because leaves and flowers spring forth from the land and the tress. That of course leaves Summer and Winter, so Practicing Poetess you must find the right moves to describe these two seasons. A seasonal challenge of sorts!
Thanks much, Cap'n. Excellent job you did, figuring out the Spring thing! Summer may have evolved from 'sunny'- - A man stepped outdoors and said, 'What a sunner it is today! ' Over time, it morphed into 'summer.' Or perhaps it came from 'hummer'- - all the junebugs, cicadas, dragonflies, and such. Winter? From 'winder', when the icy cold North wind blows.
we have winter, spring, summer and fall, but autumn is the most colorful of all. excellent write and food for thought
Sincere thanks, Louis, for your rhyming reply! Hmmm, Food- - Pumpkin pie or caramel apples, anyone?
Thank you, Dear Rini! Hope Life is being good to you! :)
