Farewell Poem by Belle Wassermeister

Farewell

Rating: 5.0

This is my final note to you;
I feel my body shutting down.
No more landscapes are there to view;
I'm putting on my final gown.

Dear reader, when you think of me,
try not to focus on my faults;
instead just know I'm now set free,
and carefree, doing somersaults!

My soul is slim and slender now,
no longer burdened by the fat;
my love no longer will ask: "Wow!
Can we turn up the thermostat? "

My mother will now come for me
to join her in that other realm,
riding a ship on friendly sea,
with Jesus standing at the helm.

Oh, some will not believe, for sure
but I know what I say is true.
The ship is just a metaphor,
but He's the Captain; we're the crew.

You think this life is all there is?
I know it's not; I've seen much more!
We all must pass one final quiz
to find out what we have in store.

Dear P. H. friends, I love you all!
Saying goodbye just makes me sad,
but I see writing on the wall,
and I know I will soon be glad.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I can tell that it is only a matter of hours now, so I thought I had better post this while I can. It was written a few days ago.

Don't weep for me! Post a new poem instead! Tell your loved ones that you love them! Hug and kiss them while you still can! Tomorrow may be too late!

Dear Belle, You have created a masterpiece in your goodbye letter, a totally flawless composition! The rhythm and the rhyme are perfect! Your time with us has been far too short, and you will be sorely missed!

I pray that this will not be- I am selfish and was just getting to know you and enjoying the journey involved in finding a new friend. If God is taking you home then I must be wishing you God speed and not being an obstruction. May flights of angels take you home, dear Bella

Whoa! Too soon! Too soon! You've only been with us, what? Six months? Seven? You are the most talented and versatile poet that I know on this website! I have learned a lot from you in this short time, but I know that when it's time to go... I promise that I will not forget you soon!

I am still here! After I wrote this, I was out of commission for about two months, but then recovered. Now, however, once again I am not doing well, and I don't know how long I have this time. I love you, Poem Hunter friends!

Wow I do hope this wonderful poet with this touching awesome masterpiece of a farewell is not gone off to the other realm. Her spirituality and belief in the afterlife is admirable and so agreeable. Kudos for this perfect poem.
