Flower 21 - The Spirited Poinsettia Poem by Geeta Radhakrishna Menon

Flower 21 - The Spirited Poinsettia

Rating: 5.0

When I saw this fabulous flower
In the cottage that I lived in Coonoor,
Just behind the laced windows,
I was wonder struck,
Not by its beauty alone,
But by its strong spirit!

The bright red flower
Opened like a luminous star
Spreading its shapely petal bracts,
Standing bold and tall,
Looking up at the sky,
As if challenging,
Perhaps winking?
At the golden Sun,
At the silver Moon,
At the twinkling stars!

She is Princess Poinsettia,
Attired in crimson red robe,
Flower of the Holy Spirit,
The Star of Bethlehem who led
The wise men to Lord Jesus!
The red colour symbolises
The blood of Christ!

So inspired by this fabulous flower,
I clicked a picture for you!
Poinsettia is also known as
"Euphorbia Pulcherrima"
Doesn't she evoke euphorbia?

Magical display of metaphorical expression to incite beauty of flowers, really reveals your passion for beauty of nature. The way you personified and compared flower with symbols of glory and its color with blood of Christ, made me hold my breath for a moment to think " What a lovely creation it is! "

i remember, geeta, seeing poinsettias growing on the big island of hawaii when i lived there. my wife has nursed one in our foyer where we have a picture window and lots of plants growing. my favorite view of it is when the leaves are starting to turn red, when the red starts creeping up into the green. -glen

Another gorgeous flower, Poinsettia. It seems the green leaves get converted into red gradually. Not this, but we have here with us another type whose leaves are converted into red colour. And we have Rangoon creeper, Madhu Malati, whose flowers change from white to red. Nature has her ways.
