Flower Girls

Rating: 5.0

The first of them was Lily,
and she was wild and silly,
but she was a best friend to me,
when I was only three.

Then Mary with her golden hair,
my little ‘Marigold',
when I was five and she was four,
gave me her hand to hold.

Young Violet loved her purple clothes
and purple everything,
but when it came to jewelry,
she wanted a gold ring.

Calla and Camellia,
twin sisters, looked alike.
I saw them every Saturday
while riding on my bike.

Aster and Azalea,
another set of twins.
They often play at chess with me ---
bet you can't guess who wins!

I can't forget miss Daisy;
she was a little crazy.
Although she was a beauty,
we called her ‘Tutti Frutti'.

Two sisters, Iris, Dahlia,
and their cousin Poppy
had handwriting their teacher said
was extremely sloppy.

The best of all the flowers seen,
as everybody knows,
is one that's stood the test of time:
that flower's name is Rose.

As I was reading this wonderful poem, I thought the flower girl in the last stanza pertains to the author's wife, my namesake. Thank you so much, Kim, for dedicating this wonderful poem to me. I feel honored. A treasure to keep forever.
