I saw the light of that morning fading
As democracy was now crippling
First one and then the second tower went tumbling
But the good old Red Blue & White was still flying
I saw my neighbors screaming and dying
While I felt helpless and in mourning
I heard their screams of agony
As I looked on in misery
I felt the pain of suffering families
As I watched and listened to the homilies
I can still see the faces of the enemy
As I sleep tossing and turning endlessly
I try to remember that God is all-loving and all-forgiving
But my enemy tells me that God is One-loving and too forbidding
Perhaps this is the reason I stopped going to church long ago
Seeing the hypocrisy of sinners and lovers and the foe
Today I'll pray at home for all the souls who have died so needlessly
Not just for my American neighbors but those who've fought courageously
So that I may enjoy my freedom in a world that is always brave and free
God, please watch over the beautiful souls of those who have died for our freedom
And give courage to their families who will some day join You in Your Kingdom
Just mere words that cannot stop the price of cabbages going up.
Full marks and to poem list. You certainly marked with excellence, this very, very tragic and sad, anniversary

What a wonderful and heartfelt poem, Richard. So beautifully and tenderly expressed. One of the best and most touching poems woven for those who have died due to senseless killings; terrorism.
Rose Marie, I feel deeply honoured and humbled by your very warm response. It's so greatly appreciated because this poem had really taken a lot out of me.
