From Your Creature - Poem by Lindz Williamson

Did you know if I could find words and hold them in my
hand out to you
I'd gather the entire alphabet, not just English
but all the audible sounds,
and present them to you, for you to savor.
You could share them, but I'd prefer that you didn't
I want them to be between you and me.
Me in the middle of us, holding them out to you,
Just a sea of letters dedicated to you.
The power and movement behind these words might frighten
you at first,
but know that I use them with the best intent and the strictest
control.
They are not just symbols of language these vowels and
consonants,
but the sound of my soul coming across my teeth
and landing flat on this page.
I can't protect you from them all,
as these letters may hurt you as much as they soothe.
I'll warn you kill wouldn't sting without the cut of a 'k' and
love would feel as safe without the lull of an 'l'.
But know that when I write them I have tried my best and
thought of you.
