Goodbye - Poem by Nosheen Irfan

He looked over his shoulder
And smiled goodbye
I didn't know it at the time
It meant nothing but a smile
I imprisoned it in my mind
Drew from it in low times
For years I held it inside
Like a pretty, precious find
For I believed not
A smile could carry poison
For I dreamed not
A smile could spell doom.

A plesant smile is a reflection of a lovely heart. Nosheen Irfan, one of the greatest poets at PH has so beautifully painted this thought that it touches our hearts immediately. (Report) Reply

I love the image of the first two lines, looking behind smiling goodbye. An innocent enough gesture. Until the discovery that a smile could carry poison, a smile could spell doom. I remember a man I loved turning into a cold stranger and he still had a smile on his face, his smile spelt doom.A sad and beautiful poem thank you Nosheen 10 (Report) Reply
