Happy Now - Poem by Megan Ayscue

Down, down the deep hole.
Where it stops?
Nobody knows.
It is like someone stole
My life like chops
To my own self esteem.

Down, down the deep hole.
The spiral is never going to end.
My life is at the bottom,
No longer a piece of burning coal
But instead a person who will not mend.
Thanks for everything.

A light, at the top.
I see it, I strive for it.
I climb, higher now.
Yes, I can see it! I won't stop
Until I reach it.
There it is.

My life was down in the hells
Of this Earth we call life.
You put me there,
And now I am free from those bells
Of insanity at the edge of a knife
Which I could not escape.

Are you happy?
I wasted my life for you,
For nothing.
But here I am, no longer a scrappy
Girl with no dreams to go through.
I'm happy, aren't you?

No, you're not.
You're still gloating about how you were wrong.
I'm here, happy, safe,
And you're still there, a rot
In the side of a wooden gong.
Happy now?
