I Poem by Bharati Nayak

I

Rating: 5.0

Where was I?
I rose from null
And one day
Vanish into void
For a short period
I play
On this stage.
I pluck my words
From the trees
There are millions and millions
I choose a few only
To write here
And put my sign
Because when they will come
They will find me
In these letters
Because in these letters
I am and will always be
In my presence and absence
For generations from here
Because these words
Were there and will be there
In their absence and presence.

Your works continually remind me of Hamlet.. He was also of the opinion that words are the most important thing ever.. In our lives words are like arrows, once spoken we can't take them back... And it is words that remain long after the speaker is gone.. I loved how you structured the poem too.. The first half is aligned to the right, in a way of saying, and the rest follows it... Shakespeare made Jacques say that the whole world was a stage, and men and women just players.. And as if you had taken that thought forward by adding, that these players act, and act only in words.. A marvellous poem Bharti.. Beautifully written, crafted, and shaped to perfection.. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Souren for your wonderful comment by drawing reference from Shakespearean play Hamlet.Yes 'words'are most important part of our life.Words are vehicles of our thoughts, feelings and emotions. They are like signature of our personality.Though we can not express all of our feelings through our chosen words, nonetheless they convey some of our personality.

This is giant sized! It makes me feel I am listening to words spoken on a Shakespearean stage straight from the bard himself... except they are Bharati's words and they spill from our hearts like smooth diamonds and pearls. Where was I? I rose from null And one day Vanish into void For a short period I play On this stage.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Perfect, Bharati as are the lines that follow. Putting this on my fav list so I will reread it often- -it is a jewel of the first water. 10 billion stars on this one! .

In these letters Because in these letters I am and will always be...Written word is so powerful. even after our deaths, we live just as Gandhi, Tagore, all the poets of the literary age lives through their written works. you pluck the words and coin it together and present to be there in your presence and in your absence. Beautiful thought. the I is the sum and substance of our thoughts which are plucked and jotted down for centuries to come. thank you dear poetess for your sublime thoughts. tony

Lives recorded in a book…sometimes we write, sometimes others write about us; always God records.

A wittingly expressed tale in fine words. Loved reading this lovely short piece.
