. IF ONLY
Oh, that I could speak my heart
And say the things I feel
At the moment when they’re called for,
When I know the need is real,
But somehow I am tongue-tied,
And words I want to say
Are replaced by words I do not mean;
But they come out anyway,
And tomorrow I will think of all
The things I could relate.
Again, I wish the chance would come,
But I know it is too late,
Like you, I cannot answer
Great thoughts on instant call;
Like others, I must bite my tongue
Or make no reply at all.
You say my words have feeling-
They cut true to the mark;
These words that you are reading
Were composed long after dark.
They‘re just words upon a paper-
My heart written in a poem,
From quiet moments of reflection
When the right words come along.
Great thoughts of instant call! ! As one grows long with the muse of life. Nice work.
Feelings so nicely expressed. This may happen with anybody. Instead of being uttered, words just get withered away. Thanks for such an amazing poem. But somehow I am tongue-tied, And words I want to say Are replaced by words I do not mean;
Exact and deep words about poetry and the process! I love such a deep analysis of this rare coming out of our spiritual body! And words I want to say Are replaced by words I do not mean; From quiet moments of reflection
Very well done. I think rhyming poetry is very difficult to do well. Many poems of this nature feel forced, the poem serves the words, not this one.
So very true! Oh, that I could speak my heart And say the things I feel.' That's the feeling I have too, but in today's world one has to be careful of what to say; especially when speaking the truth. Blessings to you, Adeline!
