Walk in
City’s familiar
And unfamiliar
Bylanes;
Incognito…
Can leave
The mask home
Who has time to glance?
It’s a city
Without a heart,
With only emptiness;
Spaces, though cramped
one jostles,
To wander
In anonymity,
Tears flowing
Down your cheeks.
It’s a city
Without a spirit, yes-
Cold and hard
Like steel concrete benches
in the foggy park
on a winter eve.
Very true Mamta....all big cities are impersonal and unfriendly...everyone is in too much of a hurry to notice anyone else...You can always move around incognito....Great write, I agree with Bob.
I can rate this poem as one of the all time classics. It has everything, great concept, economy of words, full-blooded expression, neat structure. What else can one expect from a poet?
I think you live in a great city (though I have not seen it) . Incognito, we learn more and enjoy more. Lovely poem, sweet excpression.10++
every city is a concrete jungle....kerala is the largest city ever...not even a good village is there...all are concrete jungles...
beautiful write mam'...........one of the best i have read today.....
Beautiful narration of a city, mamta; especially the concluding part stirs something in the guts!

I would like to translate this poem
Most cities can be unfriendly places, if one walks alone you will be incognito. I wonder why humans live in such cold cramped places, mainly grey with no greens and other colours. By 2030 there will be more of us living in cities than in rural areas. I find this sad. Great write Mamta, take care Love Bobx
